Artist's Statement

Art should persist
like the memory of a lover's kiss...
      ...or grit in the eye.

I suppose that could do it for an artist's statement, but maybe I should elaborate just a little.

I think that art should be lived with, and therefore an artwork should be constructed well ... to last ... to persist.

I do not think art has to be pretty or nice. It should communicate something that remains with the viewer ... once again, to persist. It can be pleasurable, like the memory of a lover's kiss. Or, it can be disquieting, provoking, or perhaps just irritating ... like grit in the eye.
